Ask Arren > White vs Sterile

I am renovating my bathroom and would love to have the "spa" feeling. I would like to have everything in white, from the free standing tub, to the cabinets, to the tiles, but I am afraid it might look too sterile. How do I stay true to the white without looking like a sterile operating room?

Please help!

Hi Silvia, Your key word is 'eclectic' if you don't want your all-white bathroom to feel too sterile! On the lighting side of things, look for some charming wall sconces and an unusual ceiling fixture (check out Rejuvenation). Think about looking at a bevelled-edge subway tile for the walls, rather than plain subway tiles, and make sure you can add some open storage into the space that could take a small - and cheap - collection of vintage milk glass vases. Instead of white towels (which I think are the worst idea ever invented) look at something more fun like bright and colourful beach towels or check in at HomeSense for much-o affordable patterned towels and bath mats. add all that up and you'll have a space that's way more charming than a hospital operating room!

Hope that's all a bit of a help!

Cheers, Arren
