PROJECT MILLER

In a smaller project, Arren worked with a young couple, one a lawyer and the other a punk rock musician, to give their main floor a sense of style, to fit their needs, reflect their passions (a love of vintage horror ephemera) and to find them pieces that could grow with them.

While the main focus was the living room and powder room, the kitchen was refreshed with cabinets refinished in black and white, the dining room furniture was updated, and the stairwell was pepped up with painted stairs and a patterned carpet. For the full tour, check out the video below.

Living Room - The brief here was to provide as much comfortable seating as possible, since the couple love to entertain. The solution? A large-scale modular sectional from American Leather scored at Elte and upholstered in na durable dog-friendly fabric. With that in place, for furniture we added in a mix of design classics and vintage finds. Side tables that are a snap to move by Hay, the softly curved Pedrera coffee table is by Gubi and wall-mounted swing arm lamp, all of which are from DWR, plus a narrow yet sculptural metal bookcase is from Must. On the vintage front, a tray-topped teak cart from Habitus and a capacious credenza from Slick Junkiez (not shown)n help fill out the room’s storage needs. The floor is anchored with my Perseverance rug in wool from Renwil and a mix of artwork, including vintage faves and a stellar piece by artist Vick Naresh. The colours in the artwork are reflected back in a playful mix of Turkish Ikat velvet toss cushions sourced on Etsy.

Powder Room - Originally the powder room was a dull space in beige with a trad vanity, so the idea was to give a snappy new vibe. While the Fornasetti style wallpaper found on Spoonflower is definitely a strong look, it’s easy enough to strip when the couple want to tone things down if and when they put the house on the market. The classic mix of subway tiles and a hex mosaic in black and white was found at Ciot, and will never go out of style. The perfect little console sink was a great find on Wayfair and the faucet is by Riobel. Above, a modern two-tone mirror is flanked by vintage sconces from The Door Store, and the fact that the shades don’t quite match just adds to the charm.
